2011 Peony Harvest

Bowl of Beauty

Once again our Peony Harvest has come to an end. The weather gods were kind, but trying at times, we reached 34 degrees one day and then a couple of days later there was snow on the mountain and we woke to a slight frost. But overall it has been another successful season, picking up new markets in Sydney, Adelaide and Brisbane.

Welcome

This year I was awarded the prestigious 2012 Nuffield Scholarship sponsored by Impact Fertilisers and the Tasmanian Government. I would like to investigate white asparagus production for the gourmet market and am hoping to visit Germany to learn more about production techniques, as it is a large producer and consumer of white asparagus.

I have set up this blog to document my journey as a Nuffield Scholar, and also to write about what’s happening on Weston Farm, a small family business which I run with my wife Belinda. We specialise in Peony roses, Extra Virgin Olive Oil and fresh farm produce.
